The CSO returns to Romsey Abbey with an exciting programme of music including a performance of Strauss’s Oboe Concerto by winner of the 2020 BBC Young Musician woodwind final, Ewan Millar.
Ewan Millar is an oboist from Berkshire, recently having completed his final year reading music at St. Hilda’s College, Oxford, graduating with first class honours. Last year he reached the grand final of the BBC Young Musician Competition, getting to perform Oscar Navarro’s “Legacy” Concerto with the BBC Philharmonic at Bridgewater Hall, Manchester.
Next year he will be going to the Royal Academy of Music in London to complete a postgraduate masters on the oboe, continuing with his teacher Melanie Ragge, made possible by the generous help of institutions such as the Drake Calleja Trust, Help Musicians UK, Charlotte Fraser Foundation, and the Zetland Foundation.
As well as oboe, Ewan is a frequent jazz pianist and singer, often performing sets in local piano bars. He has recently become a Howarth artist, playing on a Howarth XM. Ewan is grateful to the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) for their continued support of his career.
